External Studies Unit (ESU)
The External Studies Unit of the Trincomalee Campus was established as per the 349th Council decision of the Eastern University of Sri Lanka, held on 29th March 2023. Mrs. Jenitta Resi Tony was appointed by the Trincomalee Campus as the Coordinator of the Unit.
In our globalized and rapidly evolving world, the need for flexible and accessible education options that accommodate diverse learning needs is increasing. Establishing a Unit of External Studies at the Trincomalee Campus will create opportunities for students, professionals, and lifelong learners to engage in higher education and professional development through online and distance learning programs.
External degree programs offered through open and distance learning are widely recognized as an integral part of higher education, providing broad access to higher education for individuals of all ages at an affordable cost and with flexible conditions. To alleviate the pressure on universities, which cannot meet the growing demand for university education with their current capacities, the Centre for External Education and Extension Programs will offer a popular, affordable, and flexible pathway to higher education for many adult learners seeking career advancement.
Through this unit, the campus aims to offer select academic programs leading to degrees with high market demand, developed for internal students but accessible through a separate channel, utilizing the existing physical and human resources designated for internal departments within each university.
