The Career Guidance Seminar for Advanced-Level Students of Mullaitivu District

1. Introduction
This report outlines the proceedings and outcomes of the career guidance seminar conducted
for advanced-level students in Mullaitivu District, organised by the district secretariat. The
seminar aimed to provide students with insights into higher education opportunities, career
pathways, and professional guidance, particularly in fields of study available at the Eastern
University of Sri Lanka.
2. Background
The District Secretariat of Mullaitivu extended an invitation to the Rector of the Trincomalee
Campus, Eastern University. The Rector subsequently recommended Dr (Mrs) Logeswary
Sooriyakumaran from the Department of Business Management Studies, Trincomalee
Campus, to serve as the lead resource person for the seminar. Dr Sooriyakumaran then
coordinated a multidisciplinary team of academics to ensure comprehensive coverage of
diverse academic and career fields.
3. Seminar Objectives
 To guide students on higher education opportunities and career choices.
 To introduce students to specialised fields of study, including Siddha Medicine,
Applied Sciences, and Business Management.
 To motivate and prepare students for university education and professional life.
4. Resource Persons

 Opportunities in Applied Sciences – Mr Siva Uthayaraj.
 Gunapadam & Pharmacology in Siddha Medicine – Dr V. Thanushiyan.
 Interactive Q&A Session – Students engaged actively with the resource persons.
6. Key Outcomes
 Enhanced awareness among 65 students regarding higher education options at Eastern
University.
 Exposure to interdisciplinary fields such as Siddha Medicine, Applied Sciences, and
Business Studies.
 Positive feedback from students and organisers regarding the quality of guidance
provided.
 Strengthened collaboration between Mullaitivu District Secretariat and Trincomalee
Campus.
7. Acknowledgements
We extend our sincere gratitude to the District Secretariat of Mullaitivu, especially Mr S.
Gunapalan, Additional District Secretary, for organising this meaningful event and
inviting our team. We also thank the students for their enthusiastic participation.
8. Conclusion
The Career Guidance Seminar was a successful initiative that provided valuable direction to
Advanced-Level students in Mullaitivu District. The multidisciplinary approach adopted by
the resource team ensured that students received well-rounded guidance, aligning with their
academic interests and career aspirations.
