Students Shine at Cre8X 2.0 National UI/UX Design Competition-DCS

Students from the 2021/2022 batch of Trincomalee Campus, Eastern University, participated in Cre8X 2.0, the National UI/UX Design Competition organized by General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU). It was not just a design competition, but a creative journey that inspired students to think differently, work together, and push their design skills to new heights.

A total of 15 teams from Trincomalee Campus participated in the competition, representing the creativity and passion for design within our campus community. The challenge began with a three-day Mini Task, where participants had to create a complete UI concept using Figma. Those days were filled with brainstorming, collaboration, and problem-solving, teaching students how to make quick and confident design decisions under pressure.

After the initial rounds, two teams from Trincomalee Campus were selected among the top 8 teams for the Grand Finale, which was a proud achievement for our university. The finalists also attended a special design workshop organized by KDU, where industry experts shared valuable tips and insights that helped them refine their ideas and prepare for the final round.

The Grand Finale, held at the KDU premises on October 4th, was an intense experience. Within just a few hours, the finalists had to come up with a fresh design solution, prepare presentation slides, and pitch their ideas to a panel of judges. It tested their creativity, time management, and teamwork.

Even though the top awards were not in our hands this time, what we gained was far greater. Students walked away with new design skills, a stronger creative mindset, and an experience that will continue to shape their journey ahead.

Participating in Cre8X 2.0 was truly a proud moment for the students of Trincomalee Campus, proving that with creativity, teamwork, and passion, they can take on any challenge and make their campus proud.

Students Make Their Mark at Yarl Geek Challenge Season 14 – DCS

Students from the 2021/2022 batch of Trincomalee Campus, Eastern University, proudly represented their campus at the Yarl Geek Challenge Senior Season 14 (YGC 14), one of Sri Lanka’s biggest innovation and startup competitions. The event brought together university students, recent graduates, and startup founders from across the country, all working hard to turn their ideas into real solutions. The finale is scheduled as a 3-day event taking place on the 29th, 30th, and 31st of August.

Three teams from Trincomalee Campus participated in the challenge, each bringing creative and technology-driven ideas to solve real-world problems. After a thorough evaluation, two of our teams advanced to the final round.

The journey began with the Uki Startup Essentials Boot Camp, where students learned the basics of building a startup. This included understanding customers, planning business models, and preparing pitches. Mentors and industry experts guided the sessions by sharing real stories and practical advice, making it a valuable experience for everyone involved.

Following the boot camp, the teams took part in the YGC Innovation Festival, a three-day event packed with learning, teamwork, and inspiration. Students had the chance to meet and connect with passionate undergraduates, graduates, and entrepreneurs from all over Sri Lanka, all working towards turning their ideas into reality.

Although our teams did not take home the top prizes, the experience was truly rewarding. The students returned with greater confidence, stronger teamwork skills, and a clearer understanding of what it takes to build something meaningful. Most importantly, they learned that innovation is not about where you come from, but how far you are willing to go with your ideas.

Participating in YGC 14 was a proud and unforgettable journey for our students. It inspired our students to dream bigger, work harder, and believe that their ideas have the power to create real change.
