The Inaugural Session Orientation Programme – 2026 for Academic Year 2024/2025 organized by Faculty of Siddha Medicine, Trincomalee Campus, Eastern University, Sri Lanaka was held from 04.03.2026 to 07.03.2026 at the Mini Auditorium, (ICT) Trincomalee Campus.
With Nifras Rifas the Author of _Paper Plane
The Department of Language and Communication Studies proudly organized a special literary event centered on the novel on _Paper Plane_ written by Nifras Rifas, the first Muslim voice from Sri Lanka during this modern times. The program was initiated through the thoughtful idea of Dr.J. S. Rohan Savarimuttu, whose vision brought together students and academics for an engaging and memorable experience under the continues support and encouragement of Prof. K.T.Sundaresan Rector, .Trincomalee Campus, Eastern University, Sri Lanka.The event was carefully coordinated and organized by Assistant Lecturers Ms.Heshanka Janani and Ms.Nusfa Nizar ,with the aim of creating an interactive platform for literary discussion and reflection.
The gathering was graced by three distinguished chief guests, who attended alongside the author. Their presence added significance and honor to the occasion. The hall was tightly packed with students from both the Language Studies and Communication Studies, contributing to discussions and making the event intellectually vibrant.
During the program, the author shared insights into his writing journey, the inspiration behind his book, and the themes woven throughout his work. His reflections on creativity and storytelling deeply resonated with the audience, especially the students who aspire to explore literature and communication professionally.
Following the main event, three separate interviews were conducted with the author, each offering a unique perspective. Dr. E. Breman Veerasingam engaged him in a thoughtful discussion on Diaspora Literature, exploring broader literary contexts and cultural narratives. Methsala, a fourth-year student, interviewed him about his book, focusing on its themes, characters, and creative process. The third interview, conducted by Assistant Lecturer Ms.Prmodya Siriwardhan took the form of a podcast-style conversation, creating a relaxed yet insightful dialogue about the book and the author’s experiences.
The day was made even more special by the author’s generous gestures. He offered a 50% discount on his book exclusively for that day, allowing many students to purchase copies. In addition, he personally donated five copies during the event. Prior to the program, he had also gifted several books to the campus library and the main university library, contributing meaningfully to our academic resources.
Overall, the event was not merely a book discussion but a celebration of literature, collaboration, and academic engagement. It highlighted the power of ideas—beginning from a simple suggestion—and the collective effort that transforms them into impactful experiences.

Accounting Insight 2025: A Celebration of Excellence — A Special Two-Day Event for Trincomalee Campus Accounting Students
The Department of Business and Management Studies, Faculty of Communication and Business Studies, Trincomalee Campus, Eastern University Sri Lanka, successfully organized “Accounting Insight 2025”, a two-day event held on 10 and 11 November 2025, marking the first celebration of International Accounting Day at the campus. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. (Mrs.) L. Sooriyakumaran and Dr. (Mrs.) D. Ravichandran, Head of the Department, with the support of the academic staff.
The event featured sessions on career pathways in accounting by CA Sri Lanka, student presentations, debates on globalization and accounting standards, and activities highlighting ethics and professionalism. The occasion was graced by Prof. T. Sundaresan, Rector of Trincomalee Campus (Chief Guest); Prof. N. Rajeshwaran, Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Management (Guest of Honour); Mr. A. Athithanan from CA Sri Lanka; along with deans, heads of departments, and staff. The programme provided students with valuable academic and professional exposure to the accounting discipline.
Skill Expo 2025
A Skill Expo 2025 was successfully held on 03rd of November 2025 at the cafeteria under the Business Skills I subject, organized by the students of the 2022/2023 batch Department of Business & Management Studies, Faculty of Communication & Business Studies, Trincomalee Campus, Eastern University, Sri Lanka. The exhibition aimed to provide a platform for students to demonstrate their practical business knowledge, creativity, and entrepreneurial competencies developed through the course.
A total of 50 stalls were exhibited, showcasing a diverse range of innovative business ideas, products, and services. Students effectively applied their theoretical understanding to practical scenarios, displaying skills in communication, marketing, teamwork, and problem-solving.
The event served as an excellent opportunity for experiential learning, enabling students to gain real-world insights into business operations and customer engagement. It also encouraged collaboration, innovation, and confidence among participants, reflecting the true essence of the Business Skills I curriculum.
