Message from the Dean
I, along with my academic staff, welcome all the potential students who enrolled to the Faculty of Applied Sciences (FAS) and extend my gratitude for choosing FAS to start your new career in the Trincomalee Campus.
Faculty of Applied Sciences of the Trincomalee Campus, Eastern University, Sri Lanka (EUSL) was notified by the gazette published in 2001. The Campus has two faculties, namely the Faculty of Communication and Business Studies and the Faculty of Applied Sciences and a Unit of Siddha Medicine. The Faculty of Applied Sciences has two departments which are Computer Science and Physical Science. The Unit of Siddha Medicine was attached with the Faculty of Applied Science since 2014, as the unit cannot offer the degree without functioning under a faculty.
The faculty produces graduates of B.Sc. in Computer Science (03 year general degree) under the department of Computer Science and B.Sc. in Applied Physics and Electronics (03 year general degree) under the department of Physical Science. And the unit of Siddha Medicine produces graduates of Bachelor of Siddha Medicine & Surgery (05 year degree). The curricula and teaching – learning activities are conducted according to the Sri Lanka Quality Framework, UGC guidelines based on the relevant standing committees and the ACM and IEEE regulations especially for the Computer Science degree. Accordingly, semester based credit unit system is adapted. Six months industrial (internship) training is provided for the Computer Science undergraduates whereas one year internship is applicable for Siddha Medicine degree under graduates. Undergraduates of the Applied Physics and Electronics are expected to complete a project work instead of industrial component. In addition to the core courses, auxiliary courses, elective course and other suitable foundation courses are also introduced to boost their general knowledge in the future career of the job oriented life.
Moreover, the research activities are embedded in the curricula, which encourage undergraduates to publish their new findings in various Research Forums. Trincomalee Campus also provides opportunities to publish their research findings in the Annual Research Conference conducted every year since 2016. This opportunity is extended to all the academic staff and to the other interested researchers nationally and globally.
I wish you all very best to become first class graduates by utilizing all the resources provided at the Trincomalee Campus efficiently and effectively, and to pass out from here as a good citizen. Once again I wish you all the success in your academic journey in our Faculty.
Mr. S. Thadchanamoorthy
Dean, Faculty of Applied Science,
